Chapter two
Part two

It had been a few days living with Nana and Papa. Sure, we didn’t have much, but at least it was a place to stay. I had a small corner back in the ally where I kept all of my belongings, which in the end wasn’t much. I had all of my inventions, as well as scrap paper I had found in the garbage that I would draw on for ideas on new inventions and other things. I didn’t spend all of my time in my little ‘corner’ though. Most of the time I would explore the ally way, the streets, and other places. Then, when I’d come home, Nana and Papa would have a few scraps that they had found for me to eat. I’d sit down and eat with them, trying to be happy with what I had, which I was. It was my fourth day with them and was getting somewhat late. After we had eaten all of our ‘dinner’, Nana said, “Honey, we know that we missed your birthday, so we have a little surprise for you…” she said, and then Papa began, “The Gothem City Circus is in town this week, and we have just enough money for you to go and see it!” My lips curved into a large smile and my face expressed nothing but delight. I quickly hugged them both and they gave me the money. “The show starts in only a few minutes.” Nana explained, “So you better hurry!” I nodded, quickly grabbing the money that they offered to me in their hands and then rushed off. I ran down the streets and through another ally way. I had learned my way very well in just four days, and knew shortcuts and secret passages of all kinds. Finally, I made it to a large open area where lights were shinning bright in all different directions. I smiled and jumped up in excitement, then raced to the entrance. I quickly gave my money to the man and rushed in with my ticket. Thankfully, one front row seat was open- just what I was hoping for. I sat there patiently for a while, taking a good look at my surroundings. I turned around to the seats behind me and did a double take of what looked to be a small boy in a hoodie. He looked a few years older than me, and I began to look closer at his face, light dimming. I don’t know why I was so interested in his face, but it was just different than the rest. His eyes gazed up into mine and I sat there frozen, a blank stare on my face, while his expression was stern and somewhat cold. Suddenly, a large clown face popped up in front of mine and I shrieked, not expecting it at all. I turned around in my seat, taking one last glance at the small boy (who was looking out across the stage now), then looked out at the clowns and other strange people in the ring. I noticed out of the corner of my eye another young boy that looked to be 4, crying hard at the sight of a clown. I grinned slightly and chuckled a little at the sight, getting kick out of it, as well as a bit of an idea. I noticed the boy sitting behind me has become aware of the boy crying as well, and he started to laugh maniacally. I turned around slowly and faced the ring (after getting one last glimpse at the small boy crying) as a tall man in a dark suite came out. He took off his top hat and bowed to the crowd. “Good evening, ladies and gentleman!” he spoke to the crowd. It became quite in the tent as the man spoke again. “Welcome to Gotham City Circus! Tonight, we will be showing off our wonderful lion tamer, Master Leo!” an applaud went through the tent for each category he listed, and then he finished with, “And lastly, a little bit of-“ The man quickly pulled out a large poll out of his hat, and a few other things, such as a wand, a mini wind up car, and a bouquet of flowers. “Magic!” My heart began to race and I felt as though it was calling to me, this ‘magic’ that he spoke of. I was on the edge of my seat as he pulled all of the items out of his hat. I just had to learn how to do those things! The gentleman began to scan the crowd, and then a large light began to shine down on me, blinding my eyes. I put my hand over my eyes, trying to cover them from the bright light. I jumped as the mans face appeared from nowhere and was right in front of mine. He handed me the bouquet of flowers and gave me a wink. I gasped in surprise and took the flowers, holding them close. He sauntered back out into the middle of the ring and the light followed. Then he hollered to the crowd, “Let the show begin!” Music began to play and the rows of people began to cheer. I sat there in awe of everything, then slowly looked down at my flowers. My smile grew even wider and I leaned my head down, taking in a large whiff of their lovely scent. The smell was gorgeous, and I closed my eyes and could picture a large field of the same flowers that I held in my hands...

It was dark in my vision, and I stood all alone in the field of flowers. Suddenly, glowing spirits surrounded me. They began to dance in the wind all around me, and my hair seems to want to follow. I reach out to them as they begin to float away, back into the darkness across the field. My feet lift off the ground, one by one as I ran after them. They continue to fly across the beautiful night sky, and I stop, watching them as they seems to soar up towards the heavens, leaving a small green trail behind them. I give a small wave as they disappear once again into the shadow of darkness that surrounds me, then look back out to the beautiful field that lays before me and fall back, laying in them and looking up at the star-lit sky. I close my eyes slowly, and then open them once again, coming back to reality, a smile still across my face...

I looked out across the inside of the tent as people were performing and out of the corner of my eye thought I saw the boy in the hoddie behind me looking down at me. I don’t know if he was or not, but it looked as if he was… smiling at me… No, not an evil smile or anything like that. It seemed… like a warm smile, as though he has just seen the same vision as well. Not bothering to look straight at him, I turned my gaze to the ring leader once again, wanting to see the magic more than anything else. My attention was taken up high in the tent as a large light lit up a small object standing on a platform. “Ladies and Gentleman,” the ring leader said, “now watch as Bella walks across the rope only using an umbrella!” My eyes grew wide, hoping she wouldn’t fall, even though they did have a net below for safety. Time seemed to fly as I watched all of the acts, still thinking about the magic part in the back of my mind. My grip on the flowers tightened as I heard the ring leader say, “And now for the final act…” My heart raced and I looked on with anticipation. “Magic!” he said pulling out his wand and giving it a flick, sending small pieces of confetti going everywhere. My eyes sparkled as I watched it fall to the ground, and then my eyes became fixed on him. He began to pull things out of his pockets, flip them around, and then would turn them into something completely different. I was amazed beyond all words! I had never seen such a thing, and I knew I had to learn…
The circus act was finally over, and I was still in awe and shock at all of the magic tricks that the man had done. By far I knew I was the most impressed. I just had to learn these things, and once almost everyone had left, I quickly snuck back into the back of the circus tent and looked around for the ring leader. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a large trailer with his picture on it, as well as his name on the door. I quickly ran to the door and knocked on it. A few seconds later, it opened and I saw the magical man standing there, looking down at me. “Oh… and who might you be, young miss?” I smiled, eyes beginning to twinkle again and held up the flowers to him. “Y-you gave me the flowers, remember…?” I asked. He gasped slightly and then said, “Oh yes! I should have recognized that beautiful face of yours.” He said with a grin and a wink. His faced changed from a smile to a concerned look. “Now tell me…” he said, looking around, “where are your parents?” I looked a little to the ground, slightly embarrassed. “Oh…” I murmured, “They, uh… couldn’t come…” He gazed at me with an odd look, and I knew he wondered why, so before he asked, I said, “They only had enough money for me, and since my birthday was a few days ago…” I continued to look to the ground slightly, and he suddenly perked up a little. “Your birthday?!” he exclaimed. I nodded. “Well, come on in, birthday girl! We may have some presents for you!” My heart skipped a beat and I looked up into the trailer, my face full of excitement. I hopped up in as he opened the door for me and looked around at all of the gadgets hanging on his wall, all of the photos surrounding his mirror, and all of the props laying in the corners. “Lets see now… you turned how old…?” he asked me. I whirled around, a large smile still painted across my face. “Eight, sir!” I said. Before he could say or do anything else, I quickly piped in, “I loved your act, Mr. Ring leader, sir! I really wish I could do magic like you, because it is so amazing!” He gave a small chuckle as I continued on, “How do you do all of that stuff? Is it really magic? Or do you have a secret?” Gently placing a hand on my head, he rubbed his hand back and fourth, ruffling up my hair slightly. A smile still lit up my face as he said, “All of your questions will be answered in minutes…Now, stand still and cover your eyes. No peeking!” he said as he smiled and began to dig through a cabinet. I covered my eyes with my hands, beginning to wonder what he was doing. I tried to keep the excitement held inside, but it was very hard, especially when I heard what sounded like a large package in his hands. He finally turned around after a few seconds of digging in the cabinet and said to me, “Ok… open your eyes now!” I took my hands off of my eyes and began to smile from ear to ear as the giant package stood in my presents. “Open it…” the man said, smiling almost as brightly as I was. I quickly began to tear off of the paper and suddenly saw large letters. “Do it….y-… your o… own… Magic kit!” I stuttered, not being able to read that well (keep in mind, still very young at the time). I looked with wide eyes up at the man. “Is… is this mine…?” I asked. “Sure is!” he said with a chuckle. I let out a shriek of excitement and quickly hugged the man around the waist. I felt a small tear roll down the side of my face, but for once, it was a happy tear. The man hugged me back gently and then knelt down to my level as I let go from hugging him. “Now…” he said, “this is the answer to all of your questions. If you need help reading it, then come and visit me, though I’m only going to be here for two more days, got it?” he said to me. I nodded, excitement rushing through me still. He stood up and I ran to the package, picking it up. It was large, but I knew I would be able to carry it, for it wasn’t as heavy as I thought, either. I was about to head out of the door when the man stopped me by placing a hand on my sholder and said, “Now wait just a minute…” I turned around, worried that I was in trouble for some reason. “I never learned your name…” he said. I smiled and put the package down. “Well, everyone calls me-“ I was about to tell him my real name, but decided to leave the past behind me and said, “Boo.” He gave me a bit of an odd look, but then seemed to accept it as he smiled. “Well, it was very nice to meet you, Boo. You can call me Toby.” I smiled up at the man. “Hopefully-“ he began again, “we will meet again.” I nodded, hoping we would too and as I began to head out of the door with my large magic kit, he called to me from his trailer, “Oh, and happy eight’s birthday!” “Thank you Mr. Toby!” I called back, and then darted home. I slowed down once I got to the streets of the small city town and made my way through the short cuts, being careful not to harm the package in my hands in any way. My ear suddenly caught the faint sound of footsteps behind me. I whipped around, but could see nothing in the darkness. I figured it was just my imagination, and continued on. I finally found my way back to my Nana’s and Papa’s small ally way. They looked sound asleep, so I crept quietly over to my small area and laid my package down. I rested my body down next to it, holding it close so as no one could get it. I soon fell asleep, dreaming of the wondrous things had seen, the things I would be able to do with my package, and back in the corner of my mind, the boy sitting in the crowd.
Srry it took so long. I've been busy, but finally found enough time to finish writing this part. Enjoy, and please comment. ;3

Her vision towards the middle when she gets the flowers is inspired by this lovely song and poem: [link]
